A year older and wiser! :) happy 26!

I love februrary..and I am most partial to anyone who celebrates their b’day’s ,anniversaries and anything special in this month. There is something romantic and magical that leaves one yearning for more. Less no of working days, the last of the cold winter days, Valentine’s day, mommy’s b’day and my b’day too! 🙂 Ha! now you know the special affinity to this month? Best time to get two gift for special occasions this month! 😀

Last week I turned 26 :)!phew.. I can still go down memory lane and recollect my 16th b’day jokes apart.. time sure has flow by.. I am now ten years older from that day and like everyone else around me I am hoping I have become a bit wiser too, I am sure if you ask my mom she would say I still do the same things that i did when I was 16!:P

Compared to last year’s b’day ( being the 1st after the wedding) this one was quiet with a heart-shaped chocolates, cake to office, dinner at a rooftop restaurant and the best of it all the trip to the North of India ( post on it to follow soon) 😀 where all I did was shop, eat, travel and make loads of memories. 🙂

my heart shaped chocolates 🙂

So as i blew out the candles on each of those cakes( 3 of them i had) I made a few chotti si wishes to bring me good luck, happiness, loads of money so that i can travel, shop and holiday at some of the best places and celebrate many more b’days with darling hubby and loved ones!

The point of this post.. really don’t know.. maybe to show off the three b’day cakes and the heart-shaped chocolates 🙂 or just a small note to self that I had a wonderful b’day! 😀

the b'day cake sent by hubby 😀

The 3rd cake for the day @ dinner 🙂

Knockin’ on Heaven’s Doors

Dear Someone up there,

Hi! I hope all is well with you! I am sure you are extremely busy answering requests, filing requests for future reference, keeping track of the good deeds and the bad ones and making sure Karma becomes a bitch if one is bad!:(

Well in-between your busy schedule I would bring some of the things that I think u need to look into, most of it is drastically wrong and I can’t take it any longer..and would like to highlight the key issues:

# I am bored with my 9-6 routine, the mind has become the devil’s workshop and all I hear is the clutter that he does inside my head prompting me to run away and never come back. I don’t like the fact that I have to sit at my desk stare at my screen and do work that has become less of using my brain and more of something that I am forced to do to kill time. I was wondering if you would be kind enough to use your wonderful negotiating skills and get me one of those fancy jobs on TLC or the likes where all I have to do is to look good, eat, have fun and never worry about anything eva!

# I am extremely irritated with the kind of people in my life! either they are just plain ignorant about how irritating they are or think it’s an art which needs to be practised to perfection. When I learn the skills to deal with the irritating ones you send me sarcastic ones for whom at some points in time I have no retort for. God! please don’t be partial while giving skill sets such as these you see even I need them.. I don’t have too much hair left on my head you see, a few smart answers from my end would shut them up and save my already receding hairline! . Request you to kindly minimize my interaction with people like these either ways my patience level is not increasing 🙂

# Why.. and I ask you again why is it that some people don’t gain weight, look drop dead gorgeous even woken up from their sleep?? Is it nt unfair that I can’t eat my favourite things without worrying abt those extra calories the new set of tee-shirts that would look horrendous if I gained an extra few pounds.. or that someone would b scared out of their skull if they saw me in the morning?! I demand that you give these people all a few bad hair days, a few extra pounds( u can take them from me) so that I am less tortured while in their company.

# Why is it that you haven given me some super power so that I can get into my fancy superwoman costume;pack up the bad guys(annoying people) with a few punches and send them to outer space where they will all have only each other for company and not sweet innocent souls like us. Please the give me powers soon there are some people who are unaware of the free trip they are going to win to space!

I can only think of just these many for the time being, ah! but then you know there are many more things I want to rant about but thought lets just start with a few for now. I know I have been a little slack on my daily prayers and stuff and i assure I’ll make mends.. but then here is this little girl wanting a response from u and urgent closure/ granting of certain things on the list.
P.S. also note, while granting of wishes/solving problems pls to do it with sound effects like probably thunder and lightning, coconut falling on annoying persons head etc.. sometimes I tend to miss the signs! 🙂
Love & loads of prayers,
Me!

365 days and the journey still continues :)

“Never go on trips with anyone you do not love”- Ernnest Hemingway

A trip is all about the experiences, the little memories you make all through the way & this is what my husband probably had in mind when our 1st wedding anniversary trip was being planned. Coz he loves me , to have planned this special journey with me!:)

Right now if you ask me, I have no recollection of how we came to agree on the bike trip but all I knew was that this was something he wanted to do and game I was for it!
There was nothing more exciting that I looked forward to than this trip becoz all I wanted it to be was a trip that both of us would remember and something through which we could relive 365 days of madness that our life has been:)

Being married to S was nothing short of an adventure and every trip that we undertook has been nothing less of it either. On a warm June we set out to explore Pondicherry, on his sweetheart (read Avenger)* & that trip turned out to be one of my best to the place coz he had booked us into a lovely resort close to Auroville, with all essentials for a night stay packed without my knowledge into a little back pack. I loved the way he had thought through the whole thing and never let me even get the faintest of idea of what he was upto…so now you get the drift of where the second trip is headed..;)

This month with our anniversary being the highlight, S wanted to make sure that nothing would spoil the journey… and hence the chosen destination Munnar. I haven’t been there and was looking to walk through the tea estates, enjoy the view of the lake, and a walk through the clouds. So all set we decided that our sweetheart* would be packed and sent to Madurai and us to follow on the night bus.
Bags packed, the phone calls home informing them about the journey, we set off, to wake up at the temple city of the south, Madurai. We weren’t quiet prepared for what awaited us in Madurai.. the fact that we assumed we would get rooms on arrival like royalty was soon broken into a million pieces. So the next best thing to do was to find the railway station and wait it out till we could pick up the bike. We freshened up at one of the relatively decent looking hotels and headed out for a quick breakfast, picked up the bike and headed to destination Munnar or so is what i thought.

This was the route that we took Madurai-Vadipatti-Batlagundu-Vatlagundu-Perumalmalai-via palani route-Ganeshpuram & finally reached Elephant Valley resort
All through the drive we passed through mountain, plains, fields, rash drivers, curious onlookers ( probably at the sight of me) and also ear marked the Dindigual Thalpakattu Biryani as a stop over luncheon spot on the return leg of the journey.

All through the ride on NH7 the mind was put to rest, there was no work pressure, there were no phone calls, no worries abt this or that.. what I didn’t know was that the Ghat roads would take my breath away.As we started the climb the curves kept getting better & with each climb the drive keeps getting better for the man behind the wheels and for the pillion rider a chance to take in the brilliance that nature had to offer.

We stopped for breaks that included stretches & photo sessions and antakshari.. which included changing the letters so that we could sing whichever song we knew.. all the while thinking a few more hours and i would reach Munnar.. as we kept finding our way asking the locals for directions, I came across this signboard which said Elephant Valley and that’s when S asked if i have any idea what it was… prompt came my reply, it’s probably a place where they keep people of my size 😛 ( so much for my ability to crack a joke on myself). this got S worried as he would tell me later he just assumed I had seen right through the surprise and played all along knowing where we were headed! 😀

Soon on the last stretch we stopped to ask a local about Ganeshpuram and he just rattled all the major landmarks and gave away the location of the elephant valley! S’s face said it all and then i figured out we were headed there and yet again S told me we were only halting for lunch. Soon we reached EV and I was told we were going to spending the next two days here and that too on the tree house. Seeing my shocked expression S thought I was unhappy about the surprise and didn’t wanna stay there.. but all that happened to me was that I was overwhelmed and was coming to terms with the situation.:)

The walk to the tree house was long..we trekked across coffee plantations, a hanging bridge and the sight of the tree house was breath-taking! the interiors were done up beautifully with the sound of the river adding to the experience of living in a tree house. tastefully done up without harming the environment , it taught us also not abuse nature and live in harmony with it! And the best of it all was exploring some of the property on horse back! 🙂 N S who on a regular day cannot wake up before 8 am woke up at 6:30 am to watch the sunrise and bugged me out of bed, that was the effect being in the lap of nature had on him! 😀
Once settled, we headed out to explore Kodai and to check out shopping and eating places that we had heard so much about.Slightly crowded but the ride leading upto the city was breath-taking.. for one it was chill and two the deep gorges, the tall tress, the mist. clouds all added to the beauty of the ride. We did the usual touristy stuff, walk around most of the place, go around the kodai lake which is huge and beautiful, Coakers walk which disappointed me as I didn’t get to catch a glimpse of the city that lay beneath. 😦 lesson learnt: never go there in the evenings when it’s all misty!
A sleepy city that Kodai is apart from the regular touristy stuff there ain’t anything much to do so we manged to cover most of it in a day and half.We discovered an awesome Tibetian restaurant & a pastry shop with awesome cakes, bun & what not!!

Both me and S were extremely sad that our two beautiful days of being so far away from civilization was coming to an end.. each hairpin curve down, all we could think of was why do good things come to an end so soon.

Our last pittstop was at The Gateway Hotel a sprawling property on a hill with a bird’s-eye view of Madurai, which again had a beautiful driveway leading upto the property making up for the view of the city that i missed at Kodai. 🙂 after a cup of steaming hot coffee and a light snack we headed back to parcel our sweetheart back to Chennai and wait for the bus home!
Indeed it was a well deserved break and a good one at that.. on this trip I learnt that driving the ghats/ Nilgiri stretch keeda in S would never die..how many ever trips we do and he prefers silence unlike me who would love the complete opposite . S would keep giving me surprises and I would never see thru it. N lastly I could never tire from having him as my better n bitter half 🙂

So this one blog is for us.. for this adventurous trip we took.. for days when either of us are low, for days when life hands us the lemons we’ll have this to read through and the millions of pictures i clicked! happy anniversary.. love you.. always! 🙂

I leave you guys with a few pics.. some of my fav from the trip 🙂 in no particular order

Hope you enjoy them

Old Monk, Pictionary, friends… & a Happy New Year!

2010 was a totally brilliant for many reasons that are already up on the blog.. I started the new year with someone who is nothing less than special, who has a brilliant sense of humour ( which even after a year has not yet rubbed on me), made peace with people who I needed to and started living life on a completely different mode altogether. Each passing day brought with it some excitement, a new thing discovered about self, about the husband, new additions to the house, travelled, got a hike and learnt that you need to take the learning’s that life offers everyday into your stride.. 🙂

Through this journey of juggling my 9-7 job, a husband, self and many other things I made friends with the husband’s ever entertaining bunch of friend’s with whom there is never a dull moment. A bunch of crazy people, who love their music, food, travelling, photography, their crazy ass cocktails( sane ones and insane ones), Old Monk, Bloody Mary’s, Thumbs up ( mentioned on special request ), and most importantly they never let go off an opportunity to pull each other’s leg! 😀

They all get along like a house on fire, every get together there is a new story and then there is a repeat of the old stories for the new members … this is where me and D come into the picture…I am married to the lead vocalist of the band and D to the bassist and that leaves BB the long-standing and the only fan to be married soon to the new addition to the gang 🙂

A unique mix each of them put them altogether they are nothing short of the headiest cocktail you could get. So you probably would have gotten the drift of how my new year would have been there was loads of laughter, conversations, who is to marry next and what kinda girl should they marry ( highly controversial topic ) 😉 & various rounds of dumb charades & Pictionary with weird drawings where the opposite team instead of looking into what their own team member was drawing kept looking into ours (when it was All Play rounds) and eventually ended up guessing the wrong word coz my dear hubby misread the word! 😛

In between all this there was an irate neighbor who thought we were pounding on the floor and requested us not to, a huge stuffed toy froggie who was manhandled by almost everyone, a lost & then found wallet and lastly a car that broke down twice that were highlights of the day 🙂
It was my first new year away from home where I was out partying… instead of a quiet a day at home looking back on the year. This year I broke away from tradition partied hard, had hardly any money in my wallet except for a few foreign currencies and had two of the best nights in my life!

So here’s to all of you a part of my hubby darling’s extended family…have a wonderful new year and may we have enough good luck, get together’s and happiness all of these which never run out!

a few of my favorite things….

Been a dull weekend…just up and about & almost back to my normal self after the wretched fever only today..
.set the house in order with help from the husband and realized after nearly 8 months in the house that my most favorite place is the dining table =)
yes my size definitely shows for the reason of liking..but that apart the corner’s cozy.. love the view of the window of the mango tree even more pretty after a shower and the best of it all is in the evening with the soft glow from our home-made lamp shade..ah so lovely!!

No reason for this particular post.. this has been buzzing inside my head and after a down pour just a while back fits perfect. good weekend and enjoy!!~ 🙂

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad

Timeless…

It’s only Kerala.. that leaves in me this emotion that time has come to total standstill.Every journey that I embark to this place called home, its evokes in me a million emotions, some that reminds me of good times, some of the not so good, some of school, friends, crushes, and many of the meeting the prospective grooms.

It was vacations in Kerala that was the most looked forward to once summer vacations began those long flights from Dubai and the later those one-off train journey’s home..
Those umpteen shopping trips, goodies for all at home and home-made treats from grand mum& loads of new relatives whose faces at the end of the trip were all forgotten but the good times spent well-remembered. Also, the many firsts that we tried on those trips, Gold spot for one, Joy ice creams little cups of goodness, meat puff and Best bakery buns..these dearly missed once the vacation was long over.
Getting wet was a new first, getting drenched, running about in puddles all of it! its different living what u have only heard of! 🙂 The customary trips to visit relatives far and near..sometimes in an auto and sometimes in a rented ambassador..never could i figure the mechanics of opening the door and never could i understand why cars in Kerala never had ac!;)

No trip was complete without the usual coming together of the entire family, cousins of all sizes ;p and ages under one roof.. total chaos but super fun.. huge feasts, loads of laughter, shopping trips, sometimes b’day celebrations, sometimes christmas, cakes, carols and appam chicken curry b’fast and there was always space for more people around the table… all of it are now distant memories..
I have grown up and so has everyone around me.. more family members added and a few subtracted all that remains are those memories..those as I close my eyes come vivid and clear..I want to reach out n touch and bring to live moment those I cherish laugh n hold close each of it least they fade in my memory…

As i went home this time, retracing steps to familiar homes that are now empty nests, i feel with a pang of guilt for not keeping in touch with people who are part of my colourful growing up years.. as I walk down memory lane every time during a holiday all that remains wrapped in time are the house that are testimony to my many firsts, the old grandfather’ clock waiting to be wound and my grand mother waiting for the lonely house to be filled with our footsteps and laughter all over again. =)

P.S. heights of shamelessness but there is a like that u can click.. so like my post if u think its nice! 🙂

Rapunzel..Rapunzel let down thy hair……

{ver since i remember i have had this weird fascination to anyone who had long hair and THAT just turned into an obsession! Rapunzel used to be my fav fairytale and still continues to be.. for i imagine myself sitting my the window & throwing down my hair for prince charming! sigh* 😀

Mom was always particular that i would be allowed to grow my hair only when she was confident i could manage it..but then had to agree all ‘coz i started learning dance and my dance master was insistent that we needed long hair and there began my journey…. Ever other girl who came my way with long hair was surely headed for trouble..little did they know that this kid wasn’t as sweet as she seems ..voila!! for i would be trying out all possible hairstyles on their hair! =D i lived in a world of fantasy & hence assumed that my hair would grow overnight and was very disappointed when it didn’t!! Imagine my parents got me false hair out of sheer frustration so that i would stop chasing guests away!! 😉 as time went by with growing my hair the routine the taking care of it also began..weekends were apart from homework time for hair care management yes in simple terms hot oil massage, home-made concoction that included a whole lot of things n eggs..a long shower and later shampooing = long beautiful soft hair … i have never really bothered about my hair coz mom was always there to take care of it… Realisation dawned only after i left home in pursuit of higher education the value of mt tresses hit me hard..the chennai the water killed my hair, i never really did any of the things moma did to my hair, grew my hair wild n long..and always tied it up jus coz it would go mad and i never knew how to style my hair…and kept it hidden however n whenever possible! Many long years have passed and it still hurts when i cut my hair..always feel like i m self inflicting pain on my self when i cut of my lovely locks…its only nw that i have attempted step cuts , razor cuts and more recently i have cut off most of my hair and have a side fringe…  Despite all this i could still scream anytime of the day and especially when i have to go for a function that i hate having such long tresses which still behaves badly, completely becomes unruly and gives me a tough time! 😦 I am up for the biggest challenge this week after the haircut..i have to attend a friend’s sangeet & then wedding on sat & sun…n i have everythind set except my hair! But then i comsole my self and say…hum honge kamiyab..hum honge kamiyab ek din with the hairdry & the hair straightener! =)

Cold coffee, sandwich & chocolate brownie with icecream

Its one of those days when you wake up and feel like the entire world is on slow motion! it takes forever to get things done, drag your self out of bed and lastly get the day over at work,Tuesdays just add to my misery..for me even God on that day seems to be extremely bored!

On days like these i love keeping cooking to the miminum..i can get done with the b’fast and lunch..and b’fast these days is oats & lunch was tomato rice pressure cooked, which thank fully turned out well! 🙂 [yes yes! i m bragging abut myself]

..through the day me n hubby end up havin quick conversations over chat about a lot of things ranging from what needs to cooked, to who’s boss said what and the likes of it..and somewhere during todays session i ended up saying ” i m extremely tired today..all i wanna go home and do is make egg sandwich and crash” and the sweet {mind you extremely sweet } hubby that i have he has offered to cook dinner tonight and let me read a book n relax!
althought he had to do quiet a bit of cajoling to do to get me to agree coz i was stuck up on eating egg for dinner..and he convinced me what he would cook eggs but something exotic with eggs!!

I completely love it when my hubby goes into this mood..coz he experiments so much and comes out with all these mind blowing dishes ..ya the self proclaimed head chef of our house..ask some of my friends who have eaten at our place! =D and i am hoping for one such simple but exotic dish!

so now that the loving wife that i am i decided to pitch in with my share I have offered to make us tall glasses of yummy cold coffee to add to go with the sandwich and also mayb some salad with cucumbers and whatever I can find in the fridge

…and as the conversation progressed we now have on the menu 2 glasses of cold coffee, one exotic sandwich & to top it off we decided to finish it off with some yummy brownie from Fab India & vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce!! =D

ha! now who says being married is a pain!i so love being married..i remember days when i have gotten back from home wishing if only someone would make me somethin to eat and lo! after many years i have him to fulfil that very desire!

so this one’s for our extremly boring Tuesday that we hope to finish with a bang!!
